English story: you and that boring town

The story

I always hate being in that place. I hate the people, hate the trees, hate the houses. I hate everything in that town. Except you. You, whom I love more than anything.

“Why do you hate this town?” you asked me a few years ago.

“I don’t know. I just hate it. It’s so boring being here. And the people are really annoying, they keep ask me the same question all the time ‘are you happy in your new home, Al?’ ‘how’s the winter in there?’ ‘do you have a girl friend?’ ‘is your step father be kind to you?’ ‘if you uncomfort with that people, you always can come home and stay at my home’.”

You laughed, you laughed at me that time. But I didn’t know why, I still couldn’t hate you.

“You’re so funny, Al. If you hate everyone in this town, why do you keep coming here every summer?”

I kept silent for a few second, looked for the best word that I could say to you.

“Cause I don’t hate you. I love you Sarah. Just leave this town with me. I’ll save  you from that destroying plan.”

You holded my hand and then smiled to me, “You know I love you too Al. And you also know that I can’t leave this town. My family is here, my job, my life. I was born in this town, I’ve spent my whole life in here. I can’t simply leave everything like you do.”

“But you will die if you keep staying in this town, they’ll destroy this town soon.”

“I know, Al. And I want to die here.”

That’s the last time I saw and spoke to you. I lost you! I couldn’t save  you from that big earthquake, the government’s secret plan to decrease bad populations.

pi-es from me

It’s the first time I wrote flashfiction in english. I didn’t peek at dictionary (cause I don’t have one). I didn’t use google translate (I used it when I’ve finish, just to rechecked that I write the right words). That’s why this story is so simple and confusing. I only used simple words that I know, and write the sentences as simple as I can. So I couldn’t make it clear enough, it’s okay if you can’t understand the story. But I hope you still can enjoy it.

Who is Al? Who is Sarah? What’s their relationship? What is destroying plan that Al mention?

Oh please, don’t ask me that question or I will hate you like Al hate everyone and that town! (I’m just kidding, how can I hate a nice one like you? But please, don’t ask me!)

But you can criticize me. Grammar-nazi, you can laugh at my english. I know I lack at that thing. But don’t forget to give me some advice after you laugh.

And yeah, I’m too lazy to rewrite the story in Indonesia, so I just simply ask the great google to translate it, with some editing of course, google isn’t as smart as I think when I ask him to translate it. Happy long weekend for you! 😀 Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Versi Indonesia

Aku selalu benci tempat itu. Aku benci orang-orangnya, benci pohon-pohonnya, membenci rumah-rumahnya. Aku benci segala sesuatu di kota itu. Kecuali Kamu. Kamu, yang aku cintai lebih dari apapun.

“Mengapa kamu membenci kota ini?” Tanyamu aku beberapa tahun yang lalu.

“Aku tidak tahu. Aku hanya membencinya.

    salam

    • try it.. I believe that your flashfiction will be great.
may be you just need to be less descritive..
langsung aja tulis klimaks ceritanya. 😀

  2. Great job, Mel. And I enjoy it a lot.
    Nice story.
But one thing that I don;t agree. Allah made the earthquake, not the government 🙂

  3. Itu pemerintahan gila! Mosok mengurangi populasi dengan gempa buatan begitu? Sampai mengorbankan cinta seseorang lagi.

Two thumbs up!

    • thanks bli..
ini gara2 keseringan baca serial penuh konspirasinya ilhammenulis. hahaha
tapi semoga aja ga terjadi di dunia nyata

  4. OO… jadi FF itu seperti itu ya? Honestly, aku belum pernah buat. hehe… Ceritanya bagus, Mel!
    Keep spirited!

    • iya.. jadi cerita (amat) pendek gitu.. mana yang perlu diperbaiki nay? mana?
aku emang kacau kalau masalah grammar dan structure T.T makanya perlu belajar lebih keras lagi 😀

  5. siipp, amel udah mulai berkicau dengan bahasa inggris.. tapi tetep ya mel, selalu disertakan versi indonesianya.. biar dhe ndak payah nanya pakde gugel terus.. 😀

FF nya cantik, seperti biasa.. daridulu dhe pengen lho pake tokoh dengan nama Al, tapi belum pernah kesampaian.. hehe

  6. Hmmm, I never know that someone can actually make an “artificial” earthquake, hehehe 🙂

Yeah, Google Translate is still not that perfect, especially to some Asian languages. If the form is formal enough, it works quite well; but if it is not, well, it is quite a mess, 😆 . The international office here once tried to write (in Facebook) something in Chinese to welcome the new students from China. But apparently, what they wrote was so wrong and meant something else that was completely different. And when people (the Chinese of course) told them about this, they were like: “Blame Google Translate”, 😆 .

*jawabnya pake bahasa indonesia aja deh*

  7. Wuiiih…. sekarang postingannya dua bahasa, ya…. Mantaaap… berjuang terus! 🙂
Oh iya, kalau nggak salah “You, whom i love”, bukan You, who i love”. Tapi nggak tau juga deng, hahaha….

  8. Definitely enjoy what you’ve got here, glad you’re putting it out there and what
you have to say. Your post was splendidly balanced between entertaining and intelligent.
I can’t wait to learn far more thanks to you. This is truly a great blog.

  9. I have interviewed a few parents to attempt to understand what their true objection is with their child playing video games.
The player who spins the coin is referred to as the spinner.
Making your game play is the next phase you’ll be focusing on.
